CONGRATULATIONS! SHAMSHER SINGH IS BLESSED WITH A GRANDDAUGHTER AND SEES HER FOR THE FIRST TIME WHEN HE RETURNS HOME ON 42 DAYS PAROLE FROM BURAIL JAIL

For more than 20 years Shamsher Singh from the village of Ukasi Jatta in Patiala, has been in prison serving more than what is considered to be a life sentence. In 1995, Shamsher Singh was arrested alongside many others, for carrying out an assassination, which brought to an end the bloody reign of the then Panjab Chief Minister Beant.

In all these years, Shamsher Singh has only been allowed home a handful of times. The most recent was to attend his younger daughter, Sarbjit Kaur’s, wedding in December 2014, when Sikh Relief took steps to expedite his parole leave, so that he may be able to fulfill his role as 'Father of the Bride'. All our hard work and effort paid off when Shamsher Singh was granted 42 days parole.

Last week, Sikh Relief went to visit Shamsher Singh at his home and our team members, RP Singh and Parminder Singh, offered our heartiest congratulations to Shamsher Singh and his family on the birth of a baby daughter for Sarbjit Kaur and her husband Sukhvinder Singh.

Please note, Sikh Relief have an ongoing application in the High Court for Shamsher Singh’s premature release which was nearing it's conclusion, when the Supreme Court order put a stay on the release of life convicts at a state level. The matter will now be decided by the centre through the Supreme Court. Meanwhile, Sikh Relief continue the monthly prison and family welfare payments for Shamsher Singh.
