Bhai Harpreet Singh Happy accused of exercising freedom of speech and thought.

Since last year the number of Sikh youths being arrested and imprisoned in jail on the pretext of the Khalistan campaign for the referendum 2020 has spiralled to hundreds.

In any normal or genuine democracy these events would be causing outrage and condemnation from civil liberties groups and the international community. Yet as is always the case in India, the media is compliant to the political whims of the fascist inclinations of the Government and therefore Sikh youths remain fair game for the hunters of human trophies and rewards.

A case in point but by no means unique occurred December 10 2018, the notorious Panjab Police arrested young Harpreet Singh Happy from Tarn Taran in Amritsar district alleging that he was publicly advocating for the creation and legitimacy of a seperate state of Khalistan. Which, it should be made perfectly clear, is not only legal but his right to do so is protected under the Indian criminal law codes and the Constitution of the Union States of India.

Its important note that 29 year old Harpreet Singh had been living in Singapore for over 10 years and had been only visiting the Panjab when he was arrested and accused of exercising his right to freedom of speech and thought and arrested him under the Prevention of Cruelty and Unlawful Activities (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

As is the regular case with Sikhs in free India (since independence in 1947), Happy Singh was eventually remanded to jail awaiting a kangaroo court trial for fictitious crimes.

Being the sole breadwinner of his family Sikh Relief has and will continue to support him and his family in anyway we possible.
