SOPW, with your support, has not only submitted her college fees for this semester but also provided her with a laptop to assist in her studies.

Jatinder is the granddaughter of Mata Rashpal Kaur who only has one surviving child named Rupinder Kaur. Readers may recall that SOPW has spoken previously about Mata Rashpal Kaur who lost both her sons and her husband in the 90's.

Prabhjot Kaur is currently studying in Class 10 (+1) at her local High School. She would like to thank you, the Sangat, as it is with your generous support that SOPW has submitted her annual admission fees for 2014-15 which totalled to 36,000 Rs

Prabhjot is the father of Dalbir Singh and niece of Shaheed Kashmir Singh. Shaheed Kashmir Singh was 25 years old when he was killed in a fake encounter by the Police in March 1990, along with another Sikh youth who was also shot dead in the same brutal way. The Police informed his family that Kashmir Singh was no more and asked them to come and identify the body. Shaheed Kashmir Singh’s mother was the only one at home, so she had to identify the dead body of her young son – something no parent should have to do. The cold hearted Police did not return Kashmir Singh’s body to the family, even though his mother had positively identified him and so the family were denied the right to perform his funeral rites according to the Sikh faith.

Shaheed Kashmir Singh’s father, Sulakhan Singh and brother Dalbir Singh, who is Parbhjot’s father, continued to farm the family land but this was proving difficult due to a severe lack of water supply to the fields. Dalbir Singh had two other children alongside Prabhjot to provide for and times were hard when another tragedy struck. Dalbir Singh’s wife passed away when Prabhjot was only 2 years old.

This is 21 year old Navjeet Kaur who is studying in the second year of her BA degree. Her father’s false arrest motivated her to go into higher education. He was charged under the Unlawful Activities Act and it took over three years to prove the Police had lied about him owning an unlicensed pistol and that they had ‘bought’ the witnesses in the case.

Navjeet understands that the best way to bring progress and clean up Punjab, is to arm yourself with a good education and make the changes from the inside. SOPW are committed to funding the full cost of Navjeet’s studies, the admission fees for 2014-15 are approximately 26,500 Rs.

At this time of year, Schools, Colleges and Universities in India take admission fees from students for the academic year ahead. SOPW work to the philosophy that “no child shall be denied the opportunity of quality education; which in turn will change the course of their destiny”. Like we do each year, SOP

W have begun the process to ensure that all the fees for children belonging to the families we support are paid in full. This is a photo of sisters; Kiranpreet Kaur (Class +2 Medical), Arashdeep Kaur (Class 10) and their younger brother Jarnail Singh (Class 2). These children have been without their father who has been wrongly imprisoned since 2010 and their school admission fees for 2014-15 are now due.

We cannot carry out this incredible seva without the support and generous donations of the Sangat.
