The Sikh Relief team traveled through the night on a 9 hour journey to reach Saharanpur, a district which saw communal violence break out against the minority Sikh community on Saturday.

During the intense stoning and firing that took place, Saharanpur resident Tajinder Singh (in the photo wearing the yellow t-shirt and beige shorts) , who is in his thirties, received a bullet to the stomach when he was shot by the rioters. He has been in the Intensive Care Unit at Dehradun Maximum Hospital since Saturday and our team have reported that doctors have now removed the bullet and with Waheguru's blessings, Tajinder Singh's life is now out of danger.

Despite the region being in shut down and a curfew in place, the Sikh Relief team made the difficult journey to provide support and comfort to the family in their hour of need as Tajinder Singh lay in hospital fighting for his life. To our knowledge there have been no fatalities among the Sikh community of Saharanpur, but we are liaising with the locals to offer aid and support to any of those families affected by the wide scale arson, looting and violence aimed at the innocent Sikhs who have been living peacefully side by side with other communities in UP for many many decades. We will keep you updated with all developments in this case.
